Toyota Camry 2018 replaces Mark X and European Avensis?

Toyota Camry XV70 (2018)
Toyota already launched all-new Camry for 2018 model on June 2017 at North American International Auto Show. Japan, North America and Australasia launched this Camry (XV70) last year, then South East Asia will get Camry XV70 in 2018.

Toyota Camry is actually front engine, front-wheel drive D-segment sedan, same with unrelated European Toyota Avensis which lies on Toyota T platform. Another same position D-segment sedan, Toyota Mark X, its layout is front engine, but rear-wheel drive.

In European, Toyota never get Camry there as European already has Avensis. The all-new Camry is using TNGA-K platform which also use on larger Toyota Avalon in USA, because Toyota has three different D-segment sedan, I believe Toyota Camry will replace Toyota overlapped models.

Toyota Avensis is D-segment sedan for European market, it is successor of Toyota Carina E (Corona Exsior), meanwhile Toyota Mark X is also D-segment sedan too, but JDM rear wheel drive vehicle. Talk about Toyota Mark X, it is a sedan with combination of its predecessor models Cresta and Chaser, its current generation is X130, launched since 2009. Toyota Mark X is only available in Japan and China (known as Reiz), but it is not available in rest of the world to avoid competition over Camry and Avensis in Asia and Europe respectively.

In Malaysia, before launching of Toyota Camry XV10 (wider version of V30) in 1994, Toyota D-segment sedan was filled by Corona and Cressida (Mark II). After launching of Camry in 1994 for Malaysia markets, both of them were retired. In 2000s, although Toyota Mark X was not sold by UMW to avoid internal competition with prestige Camry, but it was available as parallel imported models in Malaysia.

Current Mark X and Avensis are already due for replacement, it is unknown that Toyota will make next generation for both models or not. From my view, normally Toyota model life cycle with at least 1 facelift can survive about 5-6 years before replacing with new generation. Mark X and Avensis are already 9 years in the market. I may think Toyota will not plan to develop all-new Avensis and Mark X in the future, since Camry already becomes "second world car" after Corolla, so I believe Toyota Camry XV70 will replace Mark X and Avensis at the same time. So, Toyota Camry will be available around the world. It will not become regional sedan anymore. May be it is one part of Toyota plan to merge all overlap models. For Avensis, sedan version will be replaced by Camry XV70, but station wagon Avensis will be continued.
