ANALYSIS: Lexus PS? Is the new name to the successor of ES and GS in 2019?

There are many reports stating that Lexus is going to develop new sedan to replace outgoing ES and GS together in 2019.

Atlhough Lexus ES and GS are E-segment sedan, and same position, but they have different targeted consumers.

- ES stands for Executive Sedan or Elegant Sedan
- GS stands for Grandtouring Sedan

Lexus likely to cease GS production due to low sales turnout, and replace with ES. In my opinion, if Lexus uses ES name for next generation to replace GS, I don't think the all new ES will have sporty element as ES emphasizes elegant looks. When Lexus replaces GS and ES together with a new sedan, I think this new sedan will become combination of GS and ES elements, means this sedan is sporty and elegant. For the name, I think "PS" (not PlayStation) can be the new name for the Lexus GS and ES replacement model.

Why PS? Not FS, JS, KS, MS, NS, QS, RS, SS, TS, US, VS, WS, XS, YS, or ZS?

Lexus "PS" can stand for few derivatives, here are the 6Ps:

- Prestige (ES element)
- Perfection (ES + GS element)
- Professional (ES element)
- Powerful (GS element)
- Premium (ES +  GS element)
- Performance (GS element)

Lexus PS can stands for "Prestige Sedan", "Perfection Sedan", "Professional Sedan", "Powerful Sedan", "Premium Sedan", or "Performance Sedan".

For the variants and specifications, "Lexus PS" could be divided into different powertrains:

- PS200t (2.0 turbo)
- PS250 (2.5 N/A engine)
- PS350 (3.5 N/A engine)
- PS350h (3.5 hybrid)
- PS F (5.0 V8)

Previously I had predicted recent Toyota Crown Concept 2018 (S220 series) could be badged as Lexus for export markets. Since Toyota Crown 2018 S220 is using TNGA-L platform, which is used on Lexus LS500 (XF50 model), I think Toyota Crown will be called as Lexus "PS" for export market, with different front grille and rear ends.

Lexus GS + Lexus ES >> Lexus PS?
